Life had been crazy for the Frederick family. Though the place they called home was a typical stretch of rural West Virginia, their backyard had become ground zero in a spectacular series of run-ins with a host of bizarre beings, including a diminutive demon, a hypno-eyed stalk of blood-sucking space celery and one hella-pissy, quasi-corporeal cosmic dignitary. But, as gonzo as the situation already was, things were about to get a lot stranger (and a helluva’ lot more menacing) with a terrifying nocturnal assault by a particularly nasty contingent of the Men in Black.

In the summer of ‘68, while stalking woodchuck in the West Virginia wilds, a teenage Jennings Frederick would come face-to-gargantuan-green-face with a bizarre, blood craving, botanical behemoth who he dubbed the “Vegetable Man.” Though this incredible incident was just the latest in a series of a puzzling paranormal episodes that plagued this young hunter, it would be the one that would—with the help of infamous author and ufologist Gray Barker—forever ever etch Frederick’s name in the hallowed halls of Forteana.
